With Kevin Smith's hockey film "Hit Somebody" being changed from a theatrical feature to a multi-part mini-series, Kevin Smith has decided to have one more go at making a movie before retiring from directing.
That film? A third "Clerks." Smith tweeted on Friday: "So with the HIT SOMEBODY shift, the minute Jeff Anderson signs on, my last cinematic effort as a writer/director will be CLERKS III."
Smith is following a pattern akin to Richard Linklater's "Before Sunrise" franchise. It began with a mid-1990's film following two people in their 20's. Then came a mid-2000's sequel with the same pair in their 30's. Finally we'll get a mid-2010's film with the duo in their 40's.
